Dear Friends:

I am writing to ask for your support as I run for the office of Mayor for the City of Renton.  For the past seven years I have been steering the city in the right direction as an involved and dedicated member of the Renton City Council.  As Mayor, I can add to the direction and foundation already in place to make Renton a thriving and united community in which to live and work.

 My background qualifies me for the job.  My dedication and commitment to the community runs deep, which is one of the reasons I was honored in 1999 as Renton Citizen of the Year.  I care and have been actively involved in all aspects of the Renton community over the last 36 years. While I have been a Renton resident and business owner, I have also been a parent involved in local PTA and sponsored many local charities and community events.  Like you, I truly care about the community.  I take pride in making myself visible and accessible to the citizens of Renton. 

  I have the skill to deal with diverse interests and the expertise to make sure policies and practices are implemented efficiently for the benefit of our citizens and employees alike.  I understand the complexities and fiscal responsibilities of running a City.   I have chaired the City’s Finance Committee for the last five years and am proud that we have lowered property tax rates, maintained essential city services with no additional cost to our citizens and that our City has a solid financial rating and healthy reserve funds.  In fact, Renton is one of the few jurisdictions in our region that has been able to weather the current economic downturn without raising your taxes or cutting core services.   

 My visions for the future include:

• Focusing on public safety issues
• Maintaining and supporting our amenities such as parks and recreation facilities
• Safe water and safe streets
• Ensuring accountability and fiscal responsibility
• Work towards greater government efficiencies
• Building on a strong neighborhood program
• Continuing redevelopment opportunities downtown, in the Highlands and other business centers that bring jobs to Renton; and
• Providing a healthy atmosphere to live, work and raise families.

I'm seeking both your financial support and your vote, but more than that, I'm seeking your help beyond the election so we can work as a partnership in building a better Renton Community.
